The heart of Farm 255 is Full Moon Farms, a cooperative of small farms cultivating a diversity of fruits and vegetables in and around the Athens area. In addition to supporting Farm 255 and our sister restaurant Farm Burger, Full Moon sells much of its produce through a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture), a subscription service that entitles members to a plentiful share of the harvest each week of the growing season. Directed by farmer Jack Matthews, we utilize full organic, experimental no-till, as well as partial biodynamic practices, although we are uncertified. Moonshine Meats is our integrated meat enterprise working to build dynamic local markets throughout the Southeast. Moonshine's mission as a community is to support producers and consumers from pasture to processor to plate by producing, promoting, and distributing ethically-raised meat. A collective that evolved out of our own herds, Moonshine partners with local ranchers and producers to market under a shared label that is synonymous with sustainable, ethical, and humane husbandry. Our beef and pork is hormone and antibiotic free and raised humanely on the pastures and in the scrub forests of the southeast. Farm 255 sources all of its cow and pig from Moonshine Meats, and through this intimate relationship, we are able to utilize whole animals & all the various cuts of meat throughout our menu.
Moonshine welcomes partnerships from young farmers seeking assistance in developing their methods and markets, as well as from seasoned grazers looking for new opportunities. We hope to offer a unique new outlet for ranchers and eaters alike to experience exemplary local meat. We also offer a CSA subscription for families in the Athens area that includes beef and pork products. Our goal is to build dynamic local markets that connect consumers with the source of their meat in an effort to create a more sustainable and just agriculture system in the state of Georgia and beyond.
We take on frequent interns at the restaurant and have a unique program that incorporates both farm and restaurant in a combined program of farm-AND-table instruction.
